Welcome Back Chestnut Lane

It took 3 consecutive days of 8+ hours in the kitchen to prepare enough food for roughly 75 patrons.  For someone who has not worked a day in the kitchen, the task seemed daunting when we started, relentless when we were in process and triumphant when completed.  And it was well worth it when we saw all the Chestnut followers' smiling faces.

Our hearts were aflutter when we arrived at the Willows 45 minutes before opening.  Ice chests, aprons, paper bags stamped with our logo at the ready; we began prepping the table for presentation.   Our eyes constantly pulled to the side as a line formed in front of the easel where an enlarged copy of our menu blocked the entrance.  We could see the enthusiasts leaning to the side and standing on tip toes to see what we were doing and if we were even close to serving them their favorite items they have missed for over 2 years.

The chocolate layer cake was in place, the nutella pound cake sliced and the pecan bars perfectly bagged by 6 in the sticker marked celophane bags.  I took a deep breath and went to welcome our guests.  They started flooding in, my eyes wide and in awe of the following this tiny cafe, that started in an old 700 sq foot building on the corner of 44th St & Camelback Rd almost 5 years ago, still had.  The two hour event seemed to fly by and the next thing you knew all the food was gone.  Only crumbs of maple oat scones remained on the gorgeous aged wooden tray, the tiered metal baskets that were laden with dozen and 1/2 dozen boxes of chocolate chip cookies was barren.  Sheer amazement!  I was smiling ear to ear, my heart was pounding, adrenaline running through my viens. I was seemingly out of a breath as if I had just run a marathon, this is what they call euphoria!  Bringing joy to others through delicious food, our paradise!  Welcome back Chestnut Lane!

The Willows put on a gorgeous display.  I love the rustic metal baskets.
A perfect place for our chocolate chip cookies and ficelles.
And their white porcelain cake stands were gorgeous and a great place for our pecan bars and chocolate layer cake!
